Training Schedule

We meet at the times shown below for a range of activities

You’re welcome to turn up and chat to our members, and even take part in a couple of sessions, before formally joining the club.

Bike Training

Saturday at 9:00am

We meet in the Lymington Town Council car park on Avenue Road and in an attempt to meet various members’ training and leisure plans a number of member-initiated routes are identified during the first 5 minutes. Individuals then align themselves to the route that best suits their needs and requirements before heading off at 9am.

Typically we try to split into 3 groups: Fast group: 27-30 km/hr a Medium Group: 24-26 km/hr and a Steady Group: <24 km/hr

It is always a good idea to make contact with one of your cycling buddies prior to meeting to ensure that you have someone to cycle with, particularly if you are in the Steady Group so that you don’t get dropped.

Alternatively look at our FaceBook posting which should give some details of attendees (note, our Facebook group is only open to members). Depending on the distance ridden we tend to meet for coffee and cake at about 12pm at a local cafe, usually Mabel’s cafe at Shallowmead Nursey.

Safety is paramount so make sure you are:

  1. Well equipped with a bike that is in good condition, a good helmet and ideally gloves. No helmet, no ride
  2. Familiar with the Highway code (in particular small well spaced groups, never more than 2 abreast and single file on narrow roads)
  3. Familiar with some of the protocols for riding in groups (hand signals for potholes, obstructions, turning, slowing and stopping….see internet for details)
  4. It is recommended that riders have their own Public Liability Insurance (about £26/yr visit britishtriathlon.org for details)

We welcome prospective new members but it is best to contact the club in advance so that the cycling captain can brief you beforehand:  Please contact the club if you are interested

Every other first weekend of each month

From April to October we aim to organise some timed training events on either the first Saturday or Sunday of the months (so we can include those who work on Saturday!).

This will include a 7 mile time trial (starting from the Drift Hotel near Beaulieu Road Station) or a hill climb (Bolderwood) or the annual timed 14 mile TT.

Watch the calendar section of the website or the Club Facebook page for more information but we generally meet at 8:45-9:00am in the car park of the Lymington Town Council car park as per our normal Saturday rides and then ride (at a steady pace) to the TT start.

Wednesday Cycling

On Wednesday mornings we meet at the Lymington Town Council car park on Avenue Road at 9:00am (weather permitting), where we agree on the route and the all-important mid-route coffee stop before we start.

We generally split into a couple of groups with the slower groups taking a shorter course. Cyclists wanting to do the longer course should be capable of averaging a minimum of 25km/hour over a usual route distance of around 60km. Please contact the club if you are interested.

The shorter route will initially aim for 20-24 km/hour making sure that none is dropped. Again please contact the club if you are interested.

On Thursday mornings we have a ‘Sociable Cycling’ group which is very much aimed cyclists who are familiarising themselves with the local routes and want to cycle at a nice steady pace (20-24 km/hour)

There are two WhatsApp Groups which are frequently used to organise our weekday cycling in addition to our FaceBook postings: LTC Wednesday and Sociable Cycling

contact the club if you want to join these WhatsApp groups

LTC members will be updated on events and Club activities via Facebook and the Club website.

Saturday rides are informal club rides or non-competitive time trials, not coached sessions.

As and when conditions are favourable!

May to October inclusive: Sea swim (weather and conditions permitting) from the Needles Eye cafe in Milford

Other Sessions

Other sessions occur during the year and we will endeavour to keep the website and facebook updated with information.  Unfortunately at the moment we are unable to provide coaching for novice runners.

However, if  you are new to running or you are returning from injury we would recommend the following to help get you started. Any of the couch to 5k apps, for example One You Couch to 5K are great and Challenging Events also have some detailed training plans you can follow:

Couch to pre 30 minutes

Couch to 30 minutes

30 minutes to 10k

The local club New Forest Runners do run a novice course every year – for information click here – and in addition our local park runs at Lymington Woodside and Brockenhurst are a great way to build up those running miles!
